Anyone have suggestions for more funny twitterers I should be following?

Funny things my kids say #3

My children have discovered the magical burning properties of concentrated sunshine through a magnifying glass. I’m worried the 8-year-old now wants to be an arsonist when he grows up. The other day he showed me a piece of wood covered in charred pock marks and said,

“I want to keep this as a souvenir of when I started burning things.”

Finding art

I was feeding BDM’s cat on Friday and stuck around for a few minutes to give him some company. He is such a lovely and appreciative kitty. I was so moved by his felinity, I was obliged to capture the moment for posterity.

I’ll admit that I’m exaggerating the momentousness of this encounter, but I’m trying to set the stage.

Letter to camp

Meatballs – Canadian camp comedy starring Bill Murray (1979)

CJ left today for a two night camp with BDN’s son. My son’s a very easy-going kid who makes friends quickly and adapts well to new situations. He’s been away at Beaver camp a couple of times and had plenty of sleepovers. The minimal preparations went smoothly and he was driving up with his buddy — nothing to worry about.

Until I forgot about the letter… Continue reading

Boys, put your hats on!

The boys are in a great summer program that keeps them busy with a variety of activities. Every Tuesday is beach day. Today they hopped on the Metro Transit and headed to Chocolate Lake.

Much to ET’s dismay, this is not Halifax’s Chocolate lake.

Find what you were looking for?

Using a publishing platform such as WordPress makes blogging so easy, and there are lots of features that make it fun. As I wrote in this post, I love to look at the statistics and track which topics are popular and where my readers are coming from.

By this, I don’t actually mean where in the world they are coming from but rather, where in the internet they are coming from. But, while we are on the topic of geography, I actually can see the countries of my readers and that is super cool. So… Continue reading

Oh Captain! My Captain!

dead poets society

In high school, my girlfriends and I were obsessed with the movie Dead Poets Society. I’m not sure if that was because we wished we had a teacher like Robin Williams or a boyfriend like Ethan Hawke… perhaps both. Continue reading

An open letter to my acne

Dear pimples,

We have been together a very long time. I mean really, since Junior High you and I have been almost inseparable. Do you remember when we first met? I do. In fact I still have that grade 8 school picture when you were peeking out from under my bangs. Boy, that was a bad perm!

I was also looking at my university graduation picture the other day and saw you. I had forgotten you were there that day. In fact, you were right there for all the major times in my life weren’t you? We even travelled the world together. You particularly enjoyed those long flights to Australia. For some reason, that recycled cabin air really brought out the best in you! Continue reading

What do birds and bees have to do with babies?

A couple of months ago we had “The Talk” with CJ. He had just turned eight, but that was just circumstantial. It had nothing to do with his age, it had everything to do with his curiosity.

I do this Mommy-thing where I remind the boys that I “made” them. Do you know what I mean?

Kid: Waaaa… I fell of my bike and there’s blood!
Me: Please stop ruining your knees… I worked very hard to make those!

Kid: Don’t look, you might see my bum!
Me: Oh please, I made your bum.

It’s not just me who does this… or is it?

The Husband said it was because of these constant reminders of his creation, that CJ persistently asked the question, “How does a woman make a baby?” Perhaps he was right, but it was the only Ace I had and I was going to keep playing it.

The 8-year-old as I grumbled about a fellow driver this morning.

“Stupid people shouldn’t be allowed to drive Smart cars.”
