Is there anyone out there who hasn’t seen The Lego Movie? If so, here is the quick summary (no spoilers):
There once was an ordinary LEGO minifigure named Emmet.
One day, Emmet was recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant, Lord Business.
That’s basically it.
There are some plot twists along the way but it is simple story that has a nice moralistic ending. I’ve heard a few people voicing negative opinions but I thought it was a great family movie.
It’s all about Lego, so the kids love it, but there is also lots of subtle and smart humour in there for the adults. Here’s one of my favourite lines…
But one of the things I like most about this movie is the title!
The Lego Movie
It is a brilliant marketing move in terms of brand consciousness. More importantly, I think it is hilarious because that’s what we all would be calling it anyway. Regardless of the title, the movie hype would still be…
“Have you seen the Lego movie yet?”
“I just saw the Lego movie. It’s great!”
“Man, I just can’t get that song from the Lego movie out of my head!”
Speaking of that song, that’s another thing I loved about the movie. Yes it is an incredibly tenacious ear-worm, but Tegan and Sara’s “Everything is Awesome” is just that… awesome. It’s upbeat and positive and my kids love to sing it. I honestly have yet to get sick of it.
So, from my head to yours…
Have you seen the movie? Did you like it?
Haha I have NOT seen this… though I usually don’t watch kid movies. You make a really good point about how we would all call it “The Lego Movie” regardless! That’s funny– whoever was arguing for that title in a board room a few years ago totally wins at life.
I know, right? 😉
I haven’t seen it, because my husband took the kids. I’m sure it was a good movie (they all liked it), but my husband drives me crazy with the song…
The song drives you crazy until you see the movie… that is the only remedy, I’m afraid. 🙂
Oh good lord, that song… XD Regardless, such a good movie. My partner and I loved it and my 6 year old sister loved it. We had high hopes since it’s made by the same guys that did Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs and they didn’t disappoint. You can tell these guys are total movie and pop culture geeks and are pretty deep thinkers, too. The themes in The LEGO Movie were very Matrix-y.
We love Cloudy and a Chance of Meatballs! Have you seen the second one? Kids loved it but I didn’t think it measured up.
Love it, want to see it again (though I really have to see The Muppets now).
Know what’s funny? The song is extremely popular, but it is mostly about conforming and not being an individual. 🙂
I’d like to see it again, too. I think there is a lot of funny stuff that I might pick up on a second viewing that was missed in the first go around. Your point about the song is well taken, but it was written by Lord Business so what can we expect? 🙂
Thanks to you I have just this past week have forced that f%^king song out my head now, thanks to you its back again, I have to go back into therapy to cure me of that song, Now its back to sleepless nights and its all thanks to you and that song …………..everything is not F%^KING AWESOME!!!!!
😛
Sorry Pete. 🙂 But not really…
